Yup, Phil's a natural-born tone monster! He plays acoustically through the
house PA--no amp, no effects boxes. He ~is~ a master at hand effects, which
contributes to his tone on top of his nascent resonance. For example, he
plays a version of "CC Rider" ~very~ tightly cupped. Sounds just like a
muted trumpet or trombone, precisely the effect he was trying for on that
tune.
And to be exact he plays stock Marine Bands.
